Hook film celebrates 35th anniversary with 4K release

The 1991 fantasy adventure film ‘Hook’, directed by Steven Spielberg, is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a limited edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook release scheduled for November 17. The collection features a restored presentation in 4K with Dolby Vision and includes an all-new, hour-long documentary titled ‘Hook Never, Never Ending’, which utilizes previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast members including Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, and Julia Roberts.

Reflecting on the film's production history, director Nick Castle has shared insights into how the project transitioned to Spielberg. While Castle had developed the screenplay and attached lead actors, studio politics at TriStar Pictures led to a shift in direction. Executives ultimately viewed the project as a massive vehicle specifically tailored for Spielberg, resulting in Castle losing the directorial role despite having a developed script and stars ready for production.
