Hoorn football club mourns 13-year-old Finn van Dalen after fatal accident

The football club De Blokkers in Hoorn is mourning the death of 13-year-old Finn van Dalen, who died following a traffic accident on Wednesday, September 2. The accident occurred on the Rijnweg near the intersection with Verlengde Lageweg when a car struck Finn while he was riding his bicycle. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

To honor his memory, Finn’s team did not play their scheduled match this weekend. His teammates gathered at the club wearing Ajax shirts to honor his passion for the Amsterdam-based club. During other matches at De Blokkers, a minute of silence was observed, and players wore mourning bands on the main field.

The club has established a memorial site near the canteen featuring flowers, a photograph, and a condolence book. The outpouring of support has been so significant that the club has prepared for a second book to accommodate all messages.

Police have detained the driver involved in the collision for questioning. Authorities stated that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident, and an investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
