Hoover Institution acquires Frank S. Meyer papers
The Hoover Institution has acquired the lost collection of Frank S. Meyer, a former leader of the Communist Party of Great Britain who later became a key architect of the American conservative movement.
The collection, which was discovered by Hoover Institution visiting fellow Daniel J. Flynn in a Pennsylvania warehouse in 2022, contains thousands of letters from significant twentieth-century figures. Notable correspondents include J.R.R. Tolkien, Henry Kissinger, J. Edgar Hoover, William F. Buckley Jr., and Barry Goldwater.
Other items in the archive include correspondence from Joan Didion, an invitation to meet at 10 Downing Street, handbills regarding Meyer’s deportation from Great Britain, and Communist Party training materials.
