Hope Town LNG power project enters implementation phase

The 50 MW LNG-based power project at Hope Town in Sri Vijaya Puram has entered its implementation phase. Following a Power Purchase Agreement signed between NTPC Limited and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration in July 2026, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) issued Letters of Award for both the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) and Civil packages on August 28, 2026.

The project is expected to be commissioned within 28 months of the EPC package award. Once operational, the plant aims to improve the reliability and sustainability of the power supply in South Andaman by replacing diesel-based generation with more economical and cleaner LNG-based generation. The initiative is intended to reduce power generation costs and enhance long-term energy security for the islands.
