Hopeman wildfire causes power outages and business closures

A significant wildfire broke out near the West Beach Caravan Park in Hopeman, a seaside village on Scotland’s Moray Coast, on Tuesday, August 25. The blaze, which covered an area estimated at 250 metres by 100 metres, affected grass and hedges.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) deployed six fire appliances, a specialist wildfire unit, and additional resources to manage the incident. The fire caused power disruptions throughout the area, forcing local businesses, such as the local Key Store, to close early to maintain food safety and ensure staff security.

Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to thick, black smoke. No injuries have been reported following the incident.
