Hopi Hari roller coaster accident leaves visitor with severe neurological injuries
Júlia Rimoli Bossoni, 28, suffered severe neurological consequences after riding the Montezum roller coaster at the Hopi Hari theme park in Vinhedo, São Paulo. The incident occurred in April when the victim experienced seizures and lost consciousness during her second ride of the day.
Medical examinations identified intracranial hemorrhage and cerebral edema, which neurosurgeons attributed to a 'counter-strike' or 'whiplash' mechanism caused by sudden acceleration and deceleration. Bossoni underwent emergency surgery, including a decompressive craniectomy, and remained hospitalized for 57 days. She has since lost movement on the left side of her body and faces ongoing difficulties with speech and memory.
The Public Prosecutor's Office of São Paulo and the Civil Police have opened investigations into the incident, requesting technical expertise on the attraction. The family has accused the park of withholding camera footage of the ride's descent and has alleged that Hopi Hari ceased financial assistance once the victim returned to her home in Londrina, Paraná.
Hopi Hari maintains that the Montezum roller coaster holds international certification from the TÜV Nord Group and that all safety protocols were followed. The park stated it provided immediate medical assistance and insurance coverage during the victim's initial hospitalization in Vinhedo.
