Hopkins daycare murder-suicide leaves three dead

Authorities in Hopkins, Minnesota, are investigating a suspected murder-suicide at Brown Bear Childcare, an in-home daycare located on the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North. On Wednesday morning, police discovered the bodies of a 41-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter, both of whom had sustained apparent stab wounds. A 41-year-old man, believed to be the father and the perpetrator, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident was reported shortly after 9 a.m. by a parent who witnessed the attack while dropping off a child. Six other children were present in the daycare at the time of the violence; authorities confirmed that none of the children were physically harmed, and they have since been reunited with their families.

Investigators have linked this tragedy to a separate homicide in Burnsville, where a 78-year-old woman was found dead. Police believe the suspect had recently lived in the Burnsville residence and was a close relative of the deceased woman. Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson stated that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
