Horacio Oduber Hospital receives 31 million florins in advances from AZV
The Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH) has received a total of 31 million Aruban florins in advances from insurer AZV as of 2026. This follows a recent disbursement of 15 million florins intended to provide interim liquidity while ongoing studies seek a structural solution to the hospital's financial challenges.
Despite the additional funds, HOH management warns that the payments do not resolve underlying financial instability or represent a budget increase. The hospital maintains that the current resources do not match the actual volume of medical services required by the population. HOH officials noted that external investigations suggest previous budget calculations failed to account for inflation, rising prices, and increased service demand.
Negotiations continue between HOH, AZV, and the Aruban government to establish a definitive compensation agreement. Concerns have also been raised regarding AZV's intention to begin recouping previous advances in December, a move that could potentially impact the hospital's liquidity and operational continuity.
