Horacio Rosatti calls for judicial cleanup to fight organized crime

Horacio Rosatti, President of the Supreme Court of Argentina, addressed the state of the judiciary during the swearing-in ceremony of federal judge Florentino Malaponte at the Federal Chamber of Rosario. Rosatti noted that while statistics regarding organized crime and drug trafficking in Rosario show improvement, significant work remains. He stated, “there is much to correct, there is much to clean up still,” emphasizing the need to target the complex networks involved in money laundering and those who facilitate criminal activities.

Rosatti highlighted that increased institutional scrutiny is helping to illuminate criminal structures that were previously overlooked. He acknowledged the efforts of provincial and federal judges and prosecutors, noting that current institutional support allows for redoubled efforts in the fight against crime.

Separately, in the Chubut region, the implementation of the new Federal Criminal Procedural Code has fundamentally shifted the judicial paradigm. The transition to an accusatory system has redefined the roles of judges and prosecutors, moving toward a more oral, dynamic, and immediate process where the Public Prosecutor's Office holds the authority over criminal action while judges act as neutral third parties.
