Horezu ceramics showcased at International Cultural Heritage Salon in Paris
The ASTRA Museum from Sibiu is promoting Horezu ceramics, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, at the 31st edition of the International Cultural Heritage Salon held at the Carrousel du Louvre. The event, which runs from October 29 to November 1, 2026, is themed “Patrimoine en lumières” (Heritage in Lights).
Master potter Ionuț Bîscu and his son, Sebastian, are performing live pottery demonstrations using traditional tools and materials, such as the potter's wheel, the horn, the gaiță, and decorative brushes. These demonstrations highlight the intergenerational transmission of the craft using clay from Dealul Ulmetului.
This participation is part of the “Soarele din farfurie” (Sun in a Plate) exhibition circuit, developed through the “Stăpânii lutului” (Masters of Clay) project. Additionally, an event titled “Horezu Ceramics (UNESCO Heritage), from utilitarian to aesthetic” will take place on Friday, October 30, at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Paris, featuring a conference on ceramic symbolism and a dedicated exhibition stand.
