Horhor River fish deaths trigger 839,000 TL fine for livestock farm in Bafra, Turkey

Investigations into a mass die‑off of fish in the Horhor River, which runs through the Elifli neighbourhood of Bafra district in Samsun Province, identified a local livestock enterprise as the source of pollution. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change applied an administrative fine of 839,000 Turkish lira under Article 20 of Law 2872 on environmental protection.

The fine accompanies orders to halt the polluting activities and ongoing inspections to prevent further ecological damage. Authorities said the measure demonstrates a firm response to illegal waste‑water discharges that have previously been reported by residents.

Local officials emphasized that continued monitoring will ensure compliance with environmental regulations and aim to protect the river’s ecosystem.
