Horita to open new flagship stationery store in Echizen

Horita, a stationery retailer based in Fukui Prefecture, has unveiled its new flagship store, ‘HORITA BUNGU Flagship,’ located in Echizen City. The store is scheduled to open on September 15.

Moving away from traditional category-based layouts—where pens and notebooks are grouped separately—the store implements a unique ‘editorial merchandising’ approach. Products are organized by purpose, time, or human action, such as ‘writing to communicate’ or ‘expanding thoughts on large paper.’ The retail space is divided into three functional areas: ‘Expressing,’ ‘Experiencing,’ and ‘Editing,’ designed to guide customers from discovering a concept to testing products and finally selecting tools that suit their lifestyle.

The store will also feature collaborations with local Fukui artisans, including glass pens and specialized inks inspired by the local landscape. To celebrate the opening, commemorative events including glass pen workshops and talk shows will be held through September 23.
