Horizonte TV program sees rising ratings and media tension
The television program ‘Horizonte’, hosted by Iker Jiménez and Carmen Porter on Cuatro, has emerged as a significant ratings phenomenon in Spain. The investigative and mystery-focused show has achieved audience shares of nearly 14%, drawing approximately 1.6 million viewers and competing closely with major programs like ‘El Hormiguero’.
The show’s rise has coincided with increased tension within the Spanish media landscape, characterized by sharp editorial disagreements and public disputes between journalists. This friction is partly attributed to the program’s critical stance toward the current government and its focus on topics that challenge mainstream narratives.
During a recent broadcast, tensions escalated when a live report from a protest camp in Puerta del Sol was interrupted. Reporter Rebeca Crespo reported facing hostility and attempts to block camera lenses from demonstrators who accused the program of spreading misinformation. In response to the confrontation, Jiménez referred to the protesters as ‘gentuza’ (rabble) before instructing the reporter to leave the area for her safety.
