Hormone therapy and testosterone roles in menopause

Hormonal therapies during menopause are being examined regarding their impact on weight and metabolic health. Scientific evidence suggests that hormone therapy, when correctly prescribed, does not typically cause significant weight gain. While menopause involves a hormonal transition that can lead to increased abdominal fat and loss of muscle mass, these changes are also influenced by aging, physical activity, and sleep patterns.

There is also growing interest in the role of testosterone for women. Although produced in much lower concentrations than in men, testosterone is biologically active in women, influencing bones, muscles, the heart, and the brain. Due to a shortage of female-specific products, some women have sought testosterone through alternative means to manage menopause symptoms. However, medical experts note that measuring female testosterone levels remains challenging due to their naturally low concentrations.
