Hornetsecurity Ransomware Report 2027 shows declining attack rates

The Hornetsecurity by Proofpoint Ransomware Report 2027 indicates that while companies are increasingly prepared for cyberattacks, a significant gap remains in their confidence regarding defense effectiveness. Only approximately 55 percent of respondents expressed high or very high confidence in their current ransomware protection strategies.

Data shows that the prevalence of ransomware attacks has decreased, with 18 percent of companies reporting incidents compared to 24 percent in the previous year. Preparedness measures are becoming standard, as 91 percent of organizations now protect their backups and 84 percent maintain a disaster recovery plan. Additionally, security awareness training has increased to 84 percent of companies, marking a ten percentage point rise from the prior report.

Despite these improvements, phishing remains the primary threat vector, with 52 percent of ransomware victims identifying email or phishing as the method of entry.
