Horror cinema profitability and classic film retrospectives
The horror film genre is noted for its high profitability due to low production costs and the ability to generate significant revenue without major stars or expensive special effects. Notable examples include ‘Paranormal Activity’ (2007), filmed in a director's home for approximately $15,000, ‘The Blair Witch Project’ (1999), which utilized a found-footage style and an internet marketing campaign that suggested the events were real, and ‘Saw’ (2004), which was filmed in under three weeks with a budget of around $1 million.
In Colombia, Cinemark is hosting a special programming event titled ‘Temporada Siniestra’ through November 4. The event features seven classic horror and suspense titles, including Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ (1963), ‘The Exorcist’ (1973), ‘Carrie’ (1976), ‘Poltergeist’ (1982), and the 1990s supernatural film ‘The Craft’ (1996).
