Horror genre expands with new Halloween game and Resident Evil film

The horror genre is seeing significant activity in 2026 across both film and gaming. The iconic character Michael Myers is making his debut in the video game landscape with ‘Halloween: The Game’, an asymmetrical horror title for consoles and PC that follows the gameplay patterns seen in franchises like ‘Dead by Daylight’.

In cinema, a new ‘Resident Evil’ film directed by Zack Cregger is scheduled for release in Swiss theaters starting September 17. Unlike previous installments that focused on action, this adaptation emphasizes horror elements and draws direct inspiration from the game series, including level transitions and weapon progression. A special VIP screening of the film is being hosted at the Blue Cinema Cinedome in Abtwil on September 22.
