Horror video games see new releases and technical updates
The horror gaming genre is seeing new releases and updates as the Halloween season approaches. Illfonic’s asymmetrical horror title, Halloween: The Game, has seen improvements following a day-one patch. While early versions were noted for being buggy and unpolished, recent updates have smoothed out animations, reduced game-breaking crashes, and improved the responsiveness of quick-time events (QTEs). However, the game still faces criticism regarding its limited maps, repetitive gameplay loop, and a roster with little character differentiation.
Other notable titles in the survival horror space include Hollowbody, developed by British studio Headware Games. Released for PC in 2024 and later for consoles, Hollowbody is a third-person survival horror game inspired by classic series like Silent Hill. It follows the story of Mica Holloway, a smuggler searching for a missing partner in the British Isles.
