Horse-drawn carriage caravan departs Gorizia for Budapest on July 31

On 31 July 2026, four horse‑drawn carriages will leave Piazza Transalpina in Gorizia, Italy, at 11 a.m. The convoy, organized by Associazione Mitteleuropa and the Friulian Carriage Enthusiasts Association (AFAC), will travel through Slovenia and arrive in Budapest, Hungary on 6 August. Each carriage is pulled by a pair of horses and the crews will wear “Io sono Friuli Venezia Giulia” shirts to highlight regional identity. Local officials—including regional council president Mauro Bordin, Gorizia councillor Patrizia Artico, and mayor Daniele Sergon—will attend the departure, while Hungarian vice‑minister and other dignitaries are expected in Budapest. The event aims to revive slow, symbolic travel across Central Europe, recalling a similar 2009 Gorizia‑Vienna carriage route.
