Geely and Renault develop high-torque PHEV system for off-road vehicles

Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between Geely and Renault, has introduced the 3DHT200, a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain system specifically designed for off-road vehicles. The system integrates 13 components into a single unit that is approximately 10 percent more compact than conventional designs.

The technology will debut in the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700, a large SUV. The powertrain features a three-speed hybrid transmission and two electric motors: a 110 kW P1 motor that functions as a starter and generator, and a 230 kW P3 motor responsible for primary traction.

The system is capable of delivering a total power of 830 kW (approximately 1,113 hp) and a massive wheel torque of 4,920 Nm. This torque level is intended to allow vehicles to navigate extreme terrain, including inclines of up to 45 degrees. The 3DHT200 supports three driving modes: pure EV, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid.
