Horst Brandstätter Group to convert Playmobil factory into data center
The Horst Brandstätter Group is transforming its former Playmobil production site in Dietenhofen, Germany, into a high-performance data center campus. The new facility is designed for a capacity of 100 megawatts, with potential for further expansion.
The project will be managed by a new, independent division called ‘Playmobil digital’. The company plans to provide infrastructure ranging from land and grid connectivity to full computing power, targeting high-demand applications such as artificial intelligence. The site benefits from existing 110-kilovolt power line connections, with capacity confirmed by the Nuremberg-based grid operator N-ERGIE.
The transition follows the closure of the Dietenhofen plant in June, which was the last remaining Playmobil production site in Germany. The closure resulted in 350 job losses as production was moved abroad due to ongoing economic pressures on the brand.
