Horta bypass inaugurated in the Azores after 30 years
The President of the Azores Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, inaugurated the second phase of the Horta bypass, a 3.5 km road project that had been planned for over 30 years. The project, which traverses the parishes of Angústias, Matriz, and Conceição, features three lanes, four roundabouts, a cycle path, and two viaducts.
Bolieiro criticized individuals and groups who attempted to delay or alter the road's route through petitions, signatures, and legal injunctions. He characterized these efforts as “selfishness” and procrastination intended to hinder regional development for private or political reasons.
The construction was completed with an investment exceeding 15 million euros, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The contract was awarded to a consortium consisting of Tecnovia, Afavias, and Marques, SA. Bolieiro noted that total accessibility investments in the region involving PRR funds are projected to reach 93 million euros.
