Hortensia Parra calls for holistic training in technical education

During a forum focused on restructuring the curriculum for the Chemical Analyst Technician program, researcher and professor Hortensia Parra Delgado emphasized the need for a holistic approach to education. She argued that teaching must strengthen not only technical skills and knowledge but also social coexistence and personal character.

Parra Delgado highlighted that for technical roles involving health and safety, such as chemical analysis, students must be thoroughly prepared because their work directly impacts human life.

Feedback from educators at both high school and higher education levels revealed several challenges facing students. High school teachers reported issues including widespread cheating during exams, deficiencies in basic education, and insufficient teacher preparation. Higher education instructors noted concerns regarding students' logical-mathematical reasoning abilities, apathy toward collaborative work, and a general lack of commitment to academic activities.
