Hoshinoya Nara Kangoku selected as National Geographic Best New Hotel

Hoshino Resorts announced that its luxury hotel, Hoshinoya Nara Kangoku, was the sole Japanese property selected for National Geographic’s ‘Best of the World 2026: 20 Best New Hotels’ list. The recognition highlights the facility's successful conversion of the former Nara Prison, a Meiji-era Important Cultural Property, into a high-end accommodation.

National Geographic praised the hotel for its ability to provide a unique experience that allows guests to immerse themselves deeply in Japanese history and culture through the preservation of historical architecture. The project, which took seven years to complete, focuses on the social sharing of cultural heritage by transforming the historic site into a living experience rather than just a preserved structure.

The hotel features modern design elements integrated with the original Meiji-period architecture, including a main lounge that utilizes the building's original structural beams and a courtyard that blends historic design with modern walkways.
