Hoshinoya Taketomi Island launches wellness and sleep tourism programs

Hoshinoya Taketomi Island in Okinawa is introducing new wellness and sleep-focused tourism programs. From November 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027, the resort will offer a renewed ‘Gussuri Nibui Stay’ wellness program. This initiative is a collaboration with stylist Naoko Okusa and sleep researcher Yukako Nishikawa, featuring the ‘Suyasuya Pajamas’ co-developed by both experts to promote better sleep through high-quality materials and design.

The program utilizes the island’s natural environment, including its status as a certified Dark Sky Park, to enhance sleep quality. Activities include weaving with island plants to promote serotonin secretion, enjoying meals featuring local medicinal herbs (Nuchigusa) such as Kuansou, and using herb baths to regulate body temperature.

Additionally, from December 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, the resort will offer the ‘Tutunuun Island Time’ program. This seasonal experience focuses on preparing the mind and body for spring through traditional island wisdom. Activities include harvesting medicinal herbs to make spice chai, crafting traditional tools like ‘Poshi’ (brooms) from local fibers, and participating in stargazing stretching sessions under the night sky.
