Hospice services in Germany offer volunteer and training opportunities

Various hospice services in Germany are offering opportunities for community engagement and education regarding end-of-life care.

In Rostock, the Ambulante Hospizdienst at Klinikum Südstadt is seeking new volunteer companions to support terminally ill individuals and their families. The service provides presence, conversation, and attention to those in need within homes and care facilities. Information sessions for interested individuals are scheduled for October 5 and November 11, 2026, at the Klinikum Südstadt lecture hall.

In Schopfheim, the Ambulante Hospizdienst Schopfheim & Wiesental is hosting a free ‘Last Help’ course on September 24, 2026. The four-hour program is designed to provide basic knowledge for relatives facing serious diagnoses, focusing on topics such as death as a part of life, decision-making, alleviating suffering, and conscious farewells. The course aims to increase confidence in communication and daily handling during the final stages of life.
