Argentina medical facilities report advancements in organ and tissue donation

Medical institutions in Argentina are reporting significant progress in organ and tissue procurement. In San Juan, the Hospital 25 de Mayo successfully performed its first cornea ablation using its own trained professional team. This procedure, supported by the Instituto de Ablación e Implante de San Juan (INAISA), marks a step toward the hospital becoming a certified “Hospital Donante” and represents a decentralization of tissue procurement in the region.

In Jujuy, the Ministry of Health announced that the province has reached 60 ablation operations in 2026, following recent procedures at the Paterson and Pablo Soria hospitals. These efforts are coordinated by the Centro Único Coordinador de Ablación e Implante de Jujuy (CucaiJuy) under INCUCAI guidelines.

Corrientes has also seen high activity, recording 30 organ donors so far this year. Following a multi-organ ablation at the Hospital Escuela “Gral. San Martín,” the province maintains its position as the third-highest in Argentina for donor rates per million inhabitants. These donations have benefited 72 patients with organ transplants and 57 patients through cornea donations.
