Hospital Biprovincial Quillota Petorca implements advanced pediatric surgery technology
The Hospital Biprovincial Quillota Petorca has successfully implemented advanced technology for complex pediatric surgeries. The facility recently performed two laparoscopic cholecystectomies on pediatric patients using indocyanine green technology.
This medical dye uses fluorescence to provide real-time visualization of anatomy, specifically the biliary tract, which enhances surgical safety and reduces the risk of injury. While the technology was previously used at the hospital for oncological and gynecological procedures, its application in pediatric surgery is a new development facilitated by pediatric surgeon Dr. Louise Navarrete Malig. This advancement allows families to access specialized care locally, reducing the need for patient transfers to other regional centers.
