Hospital Bukit Mertajam named among world’s 250 greenest hospitals

Hospital Bukit Mertajam (HBM) has been named one of the 250 greenest hospitals in the world in the ‘World’s Greenest Hospitals 2026’ rankings by Newsweek and Statista. It is the only hospital from Malaysia to receive this global recognition.

Bukit Mertajam Member of Parliament Steven Sim Chee Keong attributed the achievement to the continuous efforts and commitment of the HBM staff, led by Director Dr. S. Prashant, in developing a sustainable healthcare system. This follows HBM’s previous success in 2025, where it won a Gold Award for ‘Most Sustainable Hospital 2025’ in an Asian-level competition involving 399 entries from 140 hospitals across 14 countries.

In addition to sustainability milestones, Steven Sim noted that various government allocations have been secured to upgrade hospital facilities. These include RM200,000 for public toilet upgrades in 2023, RM50,000 for an eye clinic in 2024, and RM5 million for CT scan facilities in 2025 through the Ministry of Finance.
