Hospital Carlos van Buren conducts Ebola preparedness simulations

Hospital Carlos van Buren conducted a functional clinical simulation to strengthen institutional preparedness for potential suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The exercise took place within the hospital's facilities, where medical teams simulated various spaces and patient flows within the Emergency Unit to practice established protocols for identification, isolation, care, and patient transfer.

Dr. Gonzalo Wilson, an infectious disease specialist and head of the Healthcare-Associated Infection Control and Prevention Unit (IAAS), stated that the exercise allowed theoretical protocols to be put into practice. The development of these protocols began approximately two months ago in response to directives from the Ministry of Health and the Valparaíso-San Antonio Health Service.

The training also focused on the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including guided demonstrations for donning and doffing. Additionally, the simulation included coordinating responses with disaster risk management committees, SAMU 131, and the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Health.
