Hospital CIMA celebrates 22 years of free cleft lip and palate surgeries in Sonora

The Rostros Felices program, led by the CIMA Volunteer group, is celebrating 22 years of providing free surgeries for children and adolescents with cleft lip and palate in Sonora, Mexico. During the current session, which began on October 3, approximately 90 minors visited Hospital CIMA for medical evaluations. Of these, 24 are new patients, while the remainder are returning to continue multi-stage treatments.

Over the past 22 years, the program has treated 1,731 minors, performing 931 surgeries and 1,089 related procedures. This year, the surgical sessions were extended from three to four days, with an estimated 53 surgeries and 68 procedures planned. The initiative includes a medical team of 27 specialists from the United States. Beyond surgery, the program provides comprehensive care including orthodontics, dental extractions, bone grafts, and speech therapy.
