Hospital construction delays in Cádiz, Spain and Maturín, Venezuela

In Spain, the Andalusian regional government (Junta de Andalucía) has not yet taken possession of the parcel intended for a new regional hospital in Cádiz, despite a March agreement with the state-owned Zona Franca that transferred the land free of charge. The consortium continues to maintain the site, carrying out cleaning, vegetation removal and the eviction of squatters, but the handover remains pending, a delay partly attributed to the May regional elections.

In Venezuela, the promised maternal‑infant hospital in Maturín, Monagas state, remains unbuilt after the 18‑month deadline set by the regional executive. Former legislator María Carvajal alleges that the approved budget has not been spent and demands a public accounting of the funds. Governor Ernesto Luna and infrastructure director Guillermo Sánchez have not provided explanations, leaving the project stalled and the community without the expected health facility.
