Hospital Costa das Baleias receives new cancer medications and resources

The Hospital Estadual Costa das Baleias (HECB) in Teixeira de Freitas, Bahia, is participating in the National Oncology Act, a federal initiative aimed at strengthening cancer care in Brazil. During the event, the Ministry of Health announced the provision of nine new medications covering 13 different oncological treatment indications through the Unified Health System (SUS).

In addition to the new medications, the initiative includes updating clinical protocols, expanding genetic testing, and adjusting reimbursement rates for specialized procedures to improve patient access. The HECB, which serves 13 municipalities in the extreme south of Bahia, will also receive a new ambulance specifically for transporting stable patients with mobility restrictions for appointments, exams, and discharges.

Health officials, including State Health Secretary Roberta Santana and Ministry of Health representative Mozart Sales, also visited a mobile women's health unit in Teixeira de Freitas. This mobile unit provides essential diagnostic services, such as mammographies, ultrasounds, and biopsies, to support early cancer detection.
