Hospital de Bellvitge performs eight cardiac procedures in one week
Hospital de Bellvitge successfully performed eight major cardiac interventions within a single week between August 10 and August 16. The procedures included four heart transplants and four ventricular assistance implantations.
Of the four ventricular assistance procedures, two were long-term implants and two were short-term devices intended to serve as a bridge to a future transplant. The success of these urgent, non-programmed interventions was attributed to the coordinated efforts of over thirty medical and nursing professionals across cardiac surgery, cardiology, anesthesiology, intensive care, and transplant coordination services.
Cardiac surgeon Fabrizio Sbraga noted that the hospital's ability to respond to such an extraordinary volume of cases during the mid-August period demonstrates the efficiency of the hospital’s Heart Transplant and Advanced Heart Failure Program.
