Hospital de Cascais named second best hospital globally

Hospital de Cascais has been recognized as the second best hospital in the world at the Grand Hospital Award 2026. The distinction was announced by the International Hospital Federation during the World Hospital Congress in Seoul, South Korea.

Selected from over 750 applications across 38 countries, the Portuguese institution was one of eight finalists. The Silver Winner award highlights the hospital's performance in five key areas: clinical quality and patient safety, patient experience, operational and cost efficiency, workforce well-being, and equity in access.

Managed through a public-private partnership involving the Ribera and Vivalto Santé groups, the hospital's achievement marks the first time a Portuguese hospital has reached this level of international prestige. The top three rankings were Waldkliniken Eisenberg (Germany) in first place, Hospital de Cascais in second, and Sahlgrenska University Hospital (Sweden) in third.
