Paraguay launches REAL-TIRZEPY study on diabetes and obesity

The REAL-TIRZEPY study has entered its initial selection and recruitment phase in Paraguay. This prospective study is the first of its kind to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of tirzepatide under real-world conditions within the Paraguayan population.

Led by principal investigator Dr. Elizabeth Valinotti Delmás, the research is a collaboration involving independent investigators, AUREON S. A. (CRO), and Laboratorio de Productos Eticos C. E. I. S. A. The protocol involves a 52-week follow-up of 160 participants divided into two cohorts: 80 individuals with obesity without diabetes, and 80 individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (with or without obesity).

The study aims to measure percentage changes in body weight and HbA1c levels, as well as the incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events. The recruitment process saw significant public interest, with 4,140 spontaneous applications. Following a quality control and screening process, 2,659 applicants were preselected, including 2,126 candidates for the obesity cohort and 533 for the diabetes cohort.
