Hospital de Dermatologia Sanitária celebrates centenary and expansion
The Hospital de Dermatologia Sanitária in Piraquara, Paraná, celebrated its 100th anniversary this week. Originally established in 1926 as a leprosarium, the institution has evolved into a specialized reference center for dermatology, research, and medical education.
To mark the centenary, the State Health Secretariat (Sesa) announced a R$ 39 million investment for a complete modernization and expansion of the facility. The project includes the construction of a Medical Specialty Outpatient Clinic (AME), a surgical center with two operating rooms, 12 beds, a diagnostic center, and a hyperbaric oxygen therapy service for treating complex and chronic wounds.
The hospital, managed by the State Foundation for Health Care (Funeas), serves patients throughout the state, specializing in conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, vascular diseases, and difficult-to-heal skin lesions. The expansion aims to increase service capacity and upgrade infrastructure and equipment.
