Hospital de les Terres de l’Ebre to be declared a project of general interest
The Government of Catalonia will declare the future Hospital de les Terres de l’Ebre a project of general interest during this Tuesday's Executive Council meeting. According to Health Minister Olga Pané, this designation is intended to substantially reduce timelines by simplifying urban planning, planning procedures, and certain procurement processes for the construction of the new facility.
The new hospital is being designed with long-term demographic and technological shifts in mind, aiming to serve the region for the next 30 years. It will join the ranks of other major health centers of general interest in the country, such as Hospital Clínic in Barcelona and Hospital Trueta in Girona.
In addition to the new construction, work is expected to conclude on the renovation and expansion of the Hospital Verge de la Cinta by the end of 2027. This development is linked to plans to establish a Faculty of Medicine at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) campus in the Ebre region by 2030. Meanwhile, the Tortosa City Council is negotiating the acquisition of land in the Raval de la Llet area to facilitate the project.
