Hospital de Referência de Alvorada faces urgent safety mandates
The Public Prosecutor's Office of Tocantins (MPTO) has issued an urgent recommendation to the State Health Secretariat and the management of the Hospital de Referência de Alvorada to address critical safety and structural failures.
Following a Fire Department inspection, several emergency measures must be implemented within 30 days. These include correcting expired or insufficient fire extinguishers, installing emergency lighting and signage, upgrading gas cylinder storage, and adjusting the electrical generator. The hospital must also comply with fire prevention and combat project guidelines.
Beyond fire safety, the MPTO highlighted structural issues reported by the Regional Medical Council, such as cracks, leaks, and a lack of full accessibility for people with reduced mobility. The recommendation also demands proof of a technical medical director's appointment, a Certificate of Regularity for the legal entity, and the acquisition of a Sanitary Licensing Permit from the State Health Surveillance agency.
