Hospital del Bierzo radiotherapy unit advances to licensing stage

The Plataforma para la Defensa de la Sanidad Pública del Bierzo y Laciana has expressed caution following the announcement of administrative progress regarding the construction of a new radiotherapy unit at Hospital del Bierzo. The recent request for an urban planning license marks a step toward the bidding process for the infrastructure's execution.

While the collective acknowledges that this is positive news for the region, they maintain a stance of “active vigilance” due to a history of unfulfilled promises and repeated delays. They noted that oncology patients in the area have long been forced to travel outside the region or seek private care due to the lack of local services.

In addition to demanding that the construction and bidding processes proceed without further interruptions, the group emphasized that the infrastructure must be accompanied by a comprehensive plan to provide sufficient medical and technical staff to ensure the unit is fully operational from the start.
