Hospital do Câncer e do Coração reaches 2,600 chemotherapy sessions
The chemotherapy sector at the Hospital do Câncer e do Coração (HCCOR) in São Gonçalo has completed two years of operation, performing 2,615 sessions through the end of August 2026.
Located in the Lagoinha neighborhood, the unit currently conducts more than 100 sessions per month. The facility features five chairs and has the capacity to treat up to ten patients daily, with each session lasting between three and four hours on average.
Access to these specialized services, including chemotherapy and elective surgeries, is managed through the State Regulation System (SER). Patients are referred from various municipalities across the state of Rio de Janeiro. Local residents have noted that the availability of treatment within the city reduces the need for travel to other municipalities for medical care.
