Hospital Dona Helena performs first pediatric robotic surgery in Joinville
Hospital Dona Helena in Joinville, Santa Catarina, performed its first pediatric robotic surgery to remove a tumor from a two-year-old boy. The tumor, measuring approximately four centimeters, was located in the chest near the spinal column and was causing the child to lose movement in his legs.
The procedure, coordinated by thoracic surgeon Paulo Eduardo Zanoni, lasted about two and a half hours. Using the Da Vinci Xi robotic system, the medical team achieved the total removal of the lesion. The hospital reported that this marks its 340th procedure using this specific robotic technology, which has previously been utilized primarily for urological and cardiac surgeries.
