A baby girl was born in the emergency department of the Hospital Estadual Alberto Torres (HEAT) in São Gonçalo, Brazil, after her mother, Elisângela de Paula, went into labor during a heavy rainstorm.

Due to the weather conditions, the mother's family was unable to reach a maternity ward in Niterói. Medical and nursing staff at the trauma and high-complexity unit stabilized both the mother and the newborn before transferring them to a regional maternity hospital.
