Hospital Garrahan performs first intrauterine transfusion to treat fetal anemia

Argentina's Hospital Garrahan successfully carried out its first intrauterine blood transfusion, a high‑complexity procedure aimed at treating a severe fetal anemia in a 26‑week gestation baby from Tierra del Fuego. After a comprehensive reassessment, the interdisciplinary team performed a cordocentesis to sample fetal blood, calculated the needed volume, and transfused O‑negative blood directly into the umbilical vein.
