Hospital Garrahan dismisses union leader Norma Lezana
Hospital Garrahan has dismissed Norma Lezana, a nutritionist and general secretary of the Asociación de Profesionales y Técnicos (APyT), following an internal administrative inquiry. The investigation focused on her job performance during 2025.
According to the hospital's findings, authorities could not verify that Lezana performed any clinical or patient-care duties as a nutritionist during the period in question. However, the inquiry did confirm her active participation in union activities, including the occupation of the Medical Direction office. The institution framed the dismissal as part of a “strengthening of the institution” to ensure efficient and transparent use of public resources.
National Health Minister Mario Lugones stated that union activity does not constitute a privilege and cannot justify the failure to fulfill professional duties. The decision follows a period of high labor conflict at the hospital throughout 2025, which included strikes, assemblies, and mobilizations.
