Hospital Geral de Bonsucesso reaches 450 beds in Rio de Janeiro
Hospital Geral de Bonsucesso in Rio de Janeiro has reached 450 operational beds as part of a restructuring plan for federal hospitals in the region. The facility has also reopened its 24-hour emergency services after a five-year hiatus.
During a visit to the hospital, Health Minister Alexandre Padilha noted significant increases in service capacity. Surgical volume has tripled from approximately 500 to over 1,600 procedures, and the volume of exams has risen from 20,000 to over 170,000. Hospitalizations have also doubled.
New equipment includes a second tomograph, expected to facilitate 500 scans per month, and a new hemodynamics room equipped with a C-arm for vascular procedures such as angioplasties. The hospital serves as a high-complexity reference center for the Unified Health System (SUS), specializing in cardiology, oncology, transplants, and intensive care.
