Hospital Infantil de Especialidades in Chihuahua reports death of shelter resident

The State Health Secretariat of Chihuahua confirmed that a 35‑year‑old man identified as Fidencio C. D., who was staying in the shelter of the Hospital Infantil de Especialidades while caring for his daughter, was found dead. The incident was reported to emergency services (911) and the authorities have opened an investigation.

The child, a girl from the Rarámuri community of El Pedregal in Batopilas, was admitted on 19 July with severe malnutrition and gastroenteritis. She has since shown clinical improvement and is now stable, continuing under specialist care and nutritional rehabilitation. Because the father had limited Spanish, a Rarámuri interpreter assisted the medical team.

The health department expressed condolences to the family and is coordinating with the State DIF and the Secretariat of Indigenous Peoples to locate the mother and other relatives.
