Hospital Interdistrital Evita implements automated urine analysis technology
The Ministry of Human Development of Formosa has integrated a cobas U6500 automated urine analyzer into the laboratory service of the Hospital Interdistrital Evita. This technology combines chemical analysis via reagent strips with automated microscopy of urinary sediment into a single platform, reducing the need for manual sample manipulation.
The new equipment can process up to 240 samples per hour through its reagent strip module. The microscopy unit generates digital images to identify and classify elements such as red and white blood cells, epithelial cells, bacteria, casts, and crystals.
José Chiacchio, director of the Provincial Reference Laboratory, stated that the automation allows for the standardization of a routine study that provides essential information for evaluating and monitoring various pathologies. The implementation aims to optimize laboratory workflows, increase diagnostic precision, and reduce waiting times for patients.
