Hospital Josep Trueta opens new post-anesthesia recovery unit

Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona has launched a new Post-Anesthesia Recovery Unit (URPA) to monitor patients following surgical procedures. The new 475-square-meter facility features eight patient bays, including one double bay, designed to provide observation for periods ranging from 12 to 24 hours.

The unit includes several structural and hygienic improvements, such as automatic doors for privacy, polycarbonate wall cladding to reduce noise and improve hygiene, and windows in each bay to help reduce post-surgical delirium.

This new unit is located temporarily in the space previously occupied by the Post-Surgical Resuscitation Unit to allow for a new phase of construction within the hospital's surgical block. These renovations are expected to last approximately one year. Once the works are complete, the URPA will return to its permanent location, and the current space will be repurposed for major outpatient surgery.
