Hospital Melaka ordered to pay RM12.19 million for medical negligence
The Ayer Keroh High Court has awarded RM12.19 million in damages to Hanan Qaireen Mohd. Fadli, an 8-year-old boy who suffered brain damage during childbirth at Hospital Melaka in 2018. The medical negligence lawsuit was filed against the government hospital and several doctors.
Hanan was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy following complications during his birth. His mother, Noraisah Ali, stated that the compensation is intended to cover the lifelong medical needs, therapies, and specialized equipment required for her son. She noted that the costs for essential items, such as specialized shoes, standing frames, and reverse walkers, are significant and must be replaced as he grows.
Noraisah expressed gratitude for the court's decision, emphasizing that the legal battle was fought to ensure Hanan’s long-term care and support rather than to seek vengeance against the medical staff.
